Household Items Needed – International Students SIUE – Aug 19th

Please Donate Household Items to the International Hospitality Program

This fall SIUE’s International Hospitality Program (IHP) is welcoming 145 new international students to the area. We try to demonstrate the warmth and generosity of the community, by befriending them and helping them to feel comfortable in their new homes.

We need your help!“Back to School” is often the time of year to reorganize and replace items in your household. If you, your relatives or friends are planning to replace any of the following items, please consider donating them to the IHP for use by international students: small desks, chairs and reading tables, small book shelves, vacuum cleaners, beds/mattresses (twin and full size only) sheets blankets/comforters towels/wash cloths small, light sofas/futons living room chairs lamps kitchen tables & chairs kitchen utensils, pots & pans, dishes microwaves, rice cookers, blenders, food processors and toaster ovens

If you have any of these smaller household items to donate, please feel free to bring them to the donations area at our IHP Fall New Student Reception:

4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19 Student Fitness Center, Activity Center

Student ambassadors and IHP members will be available to help you unload and carry in items starting at 4 p.m.

If you have larger furniture items, please contact me, and I will try to arrange pickup. Since we have limited capacity for storing and transporting large items, this past year some people were willing to deliver directly to students as directed.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and your generosity in welcoming these students to SIUE and Edwardsville.

For more information, contact Susan Jernigan, IHP secretary, and 618-304-3443, text or phone.

Collection Connection is your go-to website when you are ready to unload something you’ve been collecting but just don’t know where to go with it. The concept is simple: connect organizations who are holding a collection drive with people who can do the collecting. Old cell phones, prom dresses, Christmas lights, pet supplies… the list goes on and on. Instead of adding your stuff to a landfill, check Collection Connection for a drop off location where your items can be recycled, repurposed or reused!
