The Glen Carbon Library will be collecting NEW children’s books for distribution through First Book St. Louis. The books will be collected at the library during the months of February and March 2015. First Book distributes only new books with the belief that low-income children receive many hand-me-downs and deserve a book that is uniquely theirs.
First Book St. Louis is a chapter of the national nonprofit organization, First Book. Its mission is to provide new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. Nationwide, First Book has distributed more than 100 million free and low-cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them. Locally, First Book St. Louis has distributed more than 100,000 new books to low-income children in the greater St. Louis area.
